Your Guide

Nobuko Burnfield is the program leader. She will meet students at Haneda Airport and guide them through each day until their departure from Haneda Airport. She is a former tour guide and current art and Japanese teacher.

Having raised her two adult children in Japan and Australia in a bilingual environment, she strongly believes that Japanese learners should experience the real Japan without their parents, not just through sightseeing but also by immersing themselves in the country.

She sent her son to middle school in Japan for 4 and a half months, which he found to be too long. She wished that a short program like hers had been available at that time. Some schools have their own group tours; however, individual students miss out on this opportunity.

This program is tailored for Japanese language learners and high school students interested in immersing themselves in Japanese culture. The tour's purpose is to provide a brief but insightful experience of Japanese high school life, offering a glimpse into potential longer-term exchanges in the future.

As a short holiday excursion alongside like-minded high school students, participants will have numerous opportunities to practice their Japanese language skills both in school and around town.

Accommodation will be in homestays with Japanese families, allowing participants to experience authentic Japanese home life without the need for interpreters. However, tour attendants will be in the same area just a text message away, to provide assistance whenever needed. In Tokyo, we’ll be staying in a comfortable hotel located in the city centre.

Tokyo sightseeing spots have been selected based on their popularity among teenage students, but the itinerary can be adjusted according to everyone's preferences. Since this is a small group of 15, we’ll plan the itinerary together
